Brightest supermoon 100% visible
The moon will not be so close again until the full moon of September 28, 2015. In other words, it’s not just a supermoon. It’s the closest supermoon of 2014.
In 2014, the August 10
full moon also gives us this year’s closest supermoon. According to NASA, this
full moon will be 14% closer and 30% brighter than other full moons of the year.
In both the evening and
morning sky, try watching for Earth’s shadow. It is a deep blue-grey, the pink
band above the shadow is called the Belt of Venus.
Earth’s shadow can be seen
any clear evening ascending in the eastern sky at the same rate that the sun
sets below the western horizon.
